FAQs & Troubleshooting guides
1. How are ScopusEye's security systems different than regular security systems?
Video monitoring in regular security systems have been traditionally based on analog technologISE which are expensive, require a large amount of hard wire links, large capacity of storgae and limit security management to a specific monitoring location. ScopusEye provider of a security system that offers full monitoring mobility by delivering video over cellular, wireless and IP networks straight to a PDA, cellular phone or laptop. This means that there is no location restriction for you to view your security cameras - you can be anywhere in the world and receive high quality video. It is also price competitive in relation to other security systems.
2. ScopusEye's security systems are known as Gateways. What does this mean?
ScopusEye's security products are called ISE - ScopusEye Gateway. A Gateway is a device that is connected to the cameras on the one side and to an IP network on the other. The Gateway receives the video images and compresses them in order to send them to a client (PDA, cell phone, laptop). The Gateway can be located anywhere in the world and still compress the video images, sending them to the client via Internet or cellular networks, such as GPRS, CDMA, EDGE or UMTS.
3. Can the ISE system be integrated with my existing alarm system?
Yes. The ISE system can be attached to an existing alarm system. The video signals generated by an existing alarm signals can be diverted to ISE's system, which in tern compresses and transfers them to PDAs,cellular phones or laptop. Below is a typical analog (CCTV) security system. Its video sources are connected to a CCTV system that enables selecting and controlling the cameras. The selected cameras can be viewed on one or more monitors.
4. How does the recording work in ISE?
ISE can record the video stream produced from any of its cameras. The recording is saved to the hard disk in the system. The user can fine-tune the parameters for optimum performance.
When recording a SIF video stream (320 X 240) at 128 kbps, the recorded stream uses approximately 60 MB per hour, or 1500 MB per day. A 250 GB hard drive can record one channel for up to four month.
When pairing the recording with the Motion Detection event, the recording becomes much more efficient: the ISE system can be set to record only when there is motion, assuming there are no changes in the stream when there is no motion. The volume recorded is then dependent on the activity.
The user can view the recordings and jump to any location within a recording in a one-minute resolution.
5. What is Video Motion Detection and how does it help me?
Motion detection is the ability to detect movement in a given area. When motion detection sensors detect an unauthorized movement it also triggers the alarm system.
The ISE system uses software-generated motion detection, replacing the physical sensors, and offers the user complete control over the area-of-activation, as well as the ability to exclude specific areas and to fine-tune the sensitivity level. This prevents many false alarms that would normally be activated when using conventional sensors.
6. Can an individual camera have multiple motion detection zones?
Yes. Our system allows you to assign different motion zones.
7. Can I continue to record while I am viewing a recording or viewing video from the
same cameras?
All cameras continue to record regardless of other user or system activitISE.
8. What types of cameras are supported by the ISE system?
ISE supports any camera with a composite video output. ISE supports PTZ (camera control for Pan, Tilt and Zoom) using the D-type protocol, and enables the user to control such cameras from a remote location using a PDA, cell phone or PC. Other camera control protocols can be added upon request.
9. How many channels can I record simultaneously?
When using ISE400 you can record up to 4 or 8 channels at the same time, and when using ISE1000 you can record up to 16 channels at the same time.
10. Which networks does the ISE system support?
ISE supports all of the cellular networks:GPRS, CDMA, EDGE and UMTS. It also supports LAN and WiFi networks.
11. What do I need in order to view my video images?
In order to view video you need a client. A client is a device like a PC, PDA or cell phone that has software installed on it that is designed to connect to your Gateway. (This software in known as MultiClient Software.) The "MultiClient" is the system (PC, PDA or cell phone) that receives and displays live (or recorded) video images from the Gateway.
12. Which operating systems does the client support?
The client works on all desktop Windows operating systems (W2K/XP), all Pocket PCs (Windows CE: PPC 2002/WM 2003/WM 2003SE), and Symbian cellular phones (Sony Ericsson P800/P900/P910, Nokia Serie S60 and Motorolla A1000 are currently supported).
13. How do I extend the storage capacity of the ISE system?
It is possible to extend the storage capacity of the ISE by either replacing the hard disk with one with larger capacity, or adding additional hard disks to the system.
14. Can I use the ISE unit for mobile applications? Does it support battery-powered
operations? Can it be used for outdoor installations?
The ISE-400M and ISE-M are a mobile Gateway units that run on 12V DC that is supplied from the cigarette lighter outlet in any vehicle.
The units can be battery-operated - they can run for around 10 hours on one car battery.
The ISE has a rugged weatherproof casing (ISE-C-1) suitable for any outdoor installation.
15. How many users can share a particular channel or camera?
There is no limit to the number of users. As long as there are network resources more users can connect.
16. Is ISE secure? Can other people connect and view my video streams?
The ISE video streams are encrypted (safeguarded) using Triple DES, a 192-bit encryption. This is a very secure encryption and prevents unauthorized people from tapping into your video stream.
17. Can ISE images be used as reliable evidence in a courtroom?
The user can extract clips and independent frames from recordings, and present them independent of the client itself. The acceptance of these as evidence in court depends on the law in the specific country.
18. What is the warranty of the ISE system?
ISE is protected under a full warranty for twelve months.
19. Where do I call for technical support?
If you have any technical questions about how things work, do not hesitate to ask our
Technical Support Team.
